The following categories are completely exempted from caution money deposit:
Caution money is fully refundable when you decide to stop selling on GeM. To get a refund, close all pending orders, ensure no buyer complaints, submit a refund request through your GeM dashboard, and the amount will be credited to your registered bank account within 15-30 working days. Validity is 3 years and can be renewed.
GeM charges a nominal transaction fee on successful orders to maintain the platform and services.
GeM charges 0.30% of the order value as transaction fee (reduced from 0.45%) on orders above ₹5 lakh, with a maximum cap of ₹3 lakh per transaction. This fee is automatically deducted from your payment when the order is completed.

If you plan to register as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) on GeM, you'll need to undergo vendor assessment by RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Service), which replaced QCI in 2024.
RITES charges a non-refundable fee based on your business turnover and category. The fee is paid directly to RITES through the GeM portal for desktop and video assessment of your manufacturing facility.

Once approved, the vendor assessment remains valid for 3 years for the certified categories. The complete process typically takes 30-45 working days, with RITES completing the assessment within 15 days of fee payment.
